Position Title: Legal Counsel

Reporting to the Head of Legal (UK&I), this role is accountable for the successful and timely delivery of legal support to Randstad UK & Ireland, including:
- leading on a range of commercial legal matters (both client and supplier)
- working closely with the Head of Legal/Legal Director on the Legal team’s strategy particularly in relation to how complex non-contentious legal support is delivered to the UK&I businesses
- supervision of junior team members, fostering a supportive yet challenging learning environment
It is intended that this role will be solely focused on non-contentious matters.
priorities for the role include:
commercial contracts
- confidently lead negotiations on a range of agreements, with a focus on detailed negotiation of complex client terms
sales
- support the sales team with new bids, providing strategic guidance on the optimum approach to addressing legal risks in a sales-friendly manner
supplier contracts
- start-to-finish support to procurement to put in place robust yet proportionate contracts with key suppliers, including in particular the technology sector
- undertake supplier validation and compliance checks using our vendor risk management tool
data protection / regulatory compliance
- provide legal support to the Data Protection and Information Security teams on the application of data protection legislation and best practice to our UK and Ireland businesses
learning and development
- take responsibility for sharing subject matter expertise among colleagues, both within the Legal function and in the wider business
strategy
- proactively identify areas for process improvement both in Legal and wider business/sales operations, and take the initiative to develop project plans to bring those to life

Qualifications
- qualified lawyer
Competencies and experience:
Required:
- extensive commercial contracts experience in a ‘supplier’ organisation, with and without supervision
- solid understanding of supply chain contracting
- RFP/sales support in competitive tender situations with limited opportunity to negotiate
- demonstrated experience of strategically managing challenging negotiations
- ability to articulate legal concepts and risk in terms which will be understood and embraced by clients and key stakeholders
- self-starter, with the initiative to proactively tackle inefficient process and poor behaviours
- confidence and vision to challenge the status quo, and to speak out to tackle ‘group-think’
- comfortable with taking risk-based contracting decisions, exercising discretion and creativity where required
- commitment to excellence, integrity and maintenance of standards - a role model who is able to exemplify the approach that senior leadership expects the team to adopt
Desirable:
- service industry experience
- understanding of, and ability to adapt to, the dynamics of working in a medium to large international company with a strong sales focus
- project management skills or qualifications, or experience as key stakeholder in cross-functional projects
